When emailing about a bug or unexpected behavior, it helps to include: your iPhone model, iOS version, what you were doing when the issue happened, and any error messages you saw.
Getting Started
Why does Intention need Screen Time permission?
Intention uses Apple’s FamilyControls and ManagedSettings frameworks — the same system-level APIs that power Screen Time on iOS. Without this permission, we can’t apply shields to the apps you want to block. The permission is requested during onboarding. If you declined it, you can grant it later from Settings inside the app.
What’s the difference between the free trial and the paid plans?
The 3-day free trial gives you full access to every feature. After the trial, you’ll be charged based on the plan you chose (Monthly, Annual, or Lifetime). You can cancel anytime during the trial and you won’t be charged.
Does Intention work without Wi-Fi or cellular?
Yes. App blocking and challenges run entirely on your device. You only need a connection to sign in, sync stats across devices, and manage your subscription.
Blocking & Shields
A blocked app isn’t showing the shield
A few things to check:
- Confirm Screen Time permission is granted (Settings inside the app will show the current status)
- Make sure blocking is turned on — the main screen has a toggle
- Confirm the app you’re trying to block is in your selected apps list
- If you just unlocked that app, the shield won’t return until your unlock duration expires (default 30 minutes)
- Force-quit the blocked app and reopen it — iOS sometimes needs a fresh launch to apply the shield
If the shield still isn’t appearing after checking all of those, email support@tryintention.app and tell us which app is affected.
How do I change my unlock duration?
Open the app, tap Settings, and adjust the Unlock Duration slider. New unlocks will use the updated duration; unlocks that are already active continue under their original timer.
Can I change how many challenges I have to solve?
Yes. In Settings you can set the number of challenges required per unlock (1–5) and the difficulty level. More challenges or higher difficulty means more friction — which is the whole point.
Can I pick which challenge types appear?
Yes. Go to Settings → Challenge Types and toggle any combination of Mental Math, Memory Grid, Word Scramble, and Stroop.
Subscription & Billing
How do I cancel my subscription?
All subscriptions are managed by Apple. To cancel:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone
- Tap your name at the top
- Tap Subscriptions
- Tap Intention
- Tap Cancel Subscription
Your access continues until the end of the current billing period. You won’t be charged again.
How do I restore purchases on a new device?
Sign in with the same Apple ID you used for the original purchase, then open Intention and tap “Restore Purchases” in Settings. Your subscription or lifetime purchase will be re-applied automatically.
I was charged but the app still says I’m not subscribed
Try: (1) close and reopen the app, (2) tap Restore Purchases in Settings, (3) make sure you’re signed into the same Apple ID that was charged. If the issue persists, email support@tryintention.app with your receipt and we’ll get it resolved.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple reviews each request individually.
Account & Privacy
Do I have to create an account?
Sign-in is optional during onboarding. Signing in lets you sync stats across devices and recover your settings if you reinstall. You can sign in later from Settings if you skip it at first.
How do I delete my account and data?
Open the app, go to Settings, and tap Delete Account. This removes your account data from our servers within 30 days. On- device data (blocking configurations, challenge history) is cleared when you delete your account or uninstall the app.
You can also request deletion by emailing support@tryintention.app.
What data does Intention collect?
The full list is in our Privacy Policy. In short: email (if you sign in), a device identifier for analytics, anonymous product interaction data, and subscription status. Your app blocking configurations are handled through Apple’s privacy-preserving tokens — we never see which specific apps you’ve chosen to block.
